Caloocan sits packed against the northern edge of Metro Manila, and its basketball team belongs to the city itself — the local government owns the franchise outright, a rare arrangement in Philippine basketball. It entered the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League in 2017 as one of ten charter teams, then spent the following years changing its name: Caloocan Supremos, then Excellence, then simply Batang Kankaloo before settling on Caloocan Batang Kankaloo. The nickname nods to a sardine brand that sponsors the side, "Kankaloo Kids" rendered into a name a city could rally behind. Orange has stayed the constant colour, paired with green since 2021 after a spell alongside blue.

Silverware has come from an unexpected direction. While the MPBL title has stayed out of reach across four playoff runs, each ending in a Division quarter-final or semi-final exit, the club broke through in the Pilipinas Super League, winning that competition's championship in 2025. Antonio Bonsubre Jr. carried the defensive end of that campaign and was named the MPBL's Defensive Player of the Year the same year, the kind of individual recognition that has outpaced the team's own results in its own league.

Games against the San Juan Knights and the Valenzuela City Darkhorse carry the sharpest edge on the schedule, played out in front of a home crowd limited to 3,000 inside the Caloocan Sports Complex. A National Finals appearance is the one line still missing from the club's record, and it remains the target every time the playoffs come back around.
