Sabios Baloncesto

Manizales did not wait for a national league to have a basketball club: Sabios formed in 1995 and stood among the eight founding teams of Colombia's professional division, itself created three years earlier. Black and white have carried the club through the swings that followed — a single Copa Costeñita, taken in 2000, the last year that competition still ran as a professional tournament before it turned invitational, and no championship since the league's 2013 refoundation, a gap that Titanes de Barranquilla's nine titles only underline.

The Coliseo Jorge Arango Uribe, also known as Coliseo Mayor, holds the team, though recent work on the building has reportedly cut its listed 5,000 seats down toward roughly 2,000. Sabios reached the semifinals of the 2016 Liga DirecTV, a run built around a roster that included Shamar Coombs and Ashton Smith, before that generation moved on.

The club's more recent test had nothing to do with the scoreboard. Unable to reach terms with the local government, Sabios relocated to Palmira in 2024, playing there as an away side from their own city for a season. Álvaro Montoya presides over the club through that return.
