Strumica

Strumica's roster today plays under a name the town has held since 2014, when the city stepped in as owner after the previous club went under. That break is worth dwelling on for a moment before anything else, because it explains why the honours board reads like it belongs to a different institution: everything on it was won before the collapse.

The lineage behind the shirt runs back further still, to a club founded in 1949 that took the Macedonian championship in 1982. What plays today, though, descends from Makedonija '91, formed in 1991, which passed through names — Polo Trejd, then Strumica 2005 — before becoming Millenium Strumica. Under that name it had its best years: the Macedonian First League title in 2006/07, the Super Cup that followed in 2007, and two runner-up finishes in the national cup. A Second League championship came in 2011/12, but by then the money had run out, and the club folded that same year.

Two years passed before Strumica returned, this time with the city holding the reins rather than a private backer. The club plays in blue and white at Sports Hall Park, listed for 2,300.
