Szeged

Founded in 1961, the team at Pick Aréna carries an outsized weight in the domestic game.

That record includes five Hungarian Championships, the first arriving in 1996 and the most recent in 2022, along with eight Hungarian Cups. The 2014 EHF Cup remains the club's one continental trophy, won in a season that also announced Szeged as a fixture in the Champions League rather than an occasional visitor to it.

The fixture that matters most at home is against Telekom Veszprém, a meeting known in Hungary as the Eternal Derby. Bence Bánhidi has carried the captaincy through the club's more recent championship run, named the country's Handballer of the Year three times running between 2019 and 2021, while goalkeeper Roland Mikler earned the same honour in 2014, the year of the European title.

The Pick Aréna holds 8,143, filled by supporters who know the team as Kékek — the Blues, after the blue and white the club has worn since it first took shape in 1961.
