Luleå Energi Arena
Luleå, Sweden
Formerly: Pontushallen
Luleå Energi Arena is not a football stadium. It is an indoor sports complex in the Robertsvik district of Luleå, Sweden, where the game of football goes to play basketball, futsal, or floorball. The building stands at Bastugatan 6-8, next to Pontusbadet swimming pool. The structure has a visible history of change rather than a single date of birth. It opened in 1967 as a concrete frame, but the old structure was stripped away during a renovation between 2012 and 2013. A new steel roof replaced the old concrete, and the arena reopened in August 2013. The interior floor is wooden parquet, the sort of surface that makes the ball bounce true for basketball, while other halls use plastic mats for different games. The capacity is 2,700 for basketball and concerts, though the seated area for matches is 2,600. The main hall, Hall A, is where BC Luleå, Luleå BBK, and Luleå Basket play their home fixtures. FK Luleå, the local futsal side, also uses the space. The official attendance record is 6,220 spectators, set during a Swedish Basketball League match involving BC Luleå. When the renovation was underway, Northland Basket and LF Basket Norrbotten played at Arcushallen instead, but the tenants returned once the new roof was in place.
