Luleå Energi Arena holds 2,700 for basketball, yet Luleå Stars Women do not treat it as the only address. Some of their games move to Hälsans Hus, where Kungshallen has 120 fixed seats and Blå hallen has 100. A third-tier side in the far north of Sweden plays in the space the city has.

The club was founded on 16 April 2002 and has a job that shapes everything else: it is the feeder side for Luleå Basket, the city's team in the top-flight Basketligan. Players hold double licences and appear for both. Sofia Hägg spent 2012 to 2016 with the Stars before going back to Luleå Basket. Maja Erlandsson took the route more recently. She won the Basketettan title with the Stars in 2021/22, the club's one league honour, and then moved up to Luleå Basket.

That title is the club's ceiling so far. Luleå Stars have not won the top-flight league or the Swedish Cup, and the second half of the picture is about where the players go rather than where the club finishes.

In Basketettan Norra, the northern division of the third tier, the travel is long and the opponents are familiar: Umeå Basket, Östersunds BK Basket and Viby Basket. The fixture with local rivals RIG Luleå is called the Luleå-derby.

This season the Stars are back in that northern division.
