Hartberg and LASK Linz played out a 3-3 draw in the Austrian Bundesliga on Sunday at the Proferilt Arena. The match, part of Regular Season 7, finished with both sides having taken the lead at different stages and neither willing to settle for less.
And here's the thing about the opening exchanges — Sascha Horvath gave Hartberg the lead in the seventh minute, then Christoph Lang equalised for LASK before the break. By then the game had settled into something more interesting. Andrija Radulovic restored the visitors' advantage in the forty-sixth minute, and Andres Andrade made it 3-1 shortly after. Hartberg were not done yet. Jed Drew pulled one back in the seventy-seventh minute, and Radulovic added his second to make it 4-3 to LASK — or so it looked, until the final whistle brought the equaliser.
To be fair, Hartberg sat deep and soaked it up for long periods, then punished LASK when they switched off at a set piece. The visitors let the game flow at times but could not keep their shape when under pressure. Three substitutions on the hour mark changed nothing decisive, and by then the momentum had shifted back and forth enough that neither manager could claim control.
The statistics tell a different story from the scoreboard. LASK enjoyed 60 per cent possession and created more chances, but Hartberg's efficiency meant they did not need much. Both sides won twenty-one aerial duels, and the shots on target were three apiece. Many shots with one goal means chances went begging — or in this case, were converted when it mattered.
What the result means is simple enough. Hartberg remain sixth with eight points from seven games, while LASK stay third on sixteen. Neither side has moved far from where they started, and the table does not lie about that. Cup football has its own rules, but this was league football, and points are points regardless of how they were earned.
