About the player
Ali Youssef scored a decisive goal in July 2022, three minutes after coming on as a substitute for BK Häcken. It was his first appearance after a cruciate ligament injury, and the goal made the difference in a season that ended with the club winning the Allsvenskan title.
He grew up in Gothenburg and started out at Färjenäs IF and IF Warta before joining the Häcken academy in 2012. He moved up to the senior squad in 2019 and made 63 league appearances for the club, scoring 17 goals. In the 2020–21 Svenska Cupen, Häcken reached the final with him in the squad, but lost to Hammarby on penalties.
His international path began with Sweden. In October 2019 he scored twice for the Under-19s in a friendly against Norway's Under-20s. He later chose Tunisia and made his senior debut on 5 June 2021, in a 1–0 friendly win over DR Congo. Mali followed that June, then Botswana in September 2023 and Madagascar and Gambia in September 2024. By late 2024 he had won five caps and had yet to score for the national side.
In January 2025 he left Häcken for Apollon Limassol in Cyprus. In July 2026 he came back to Sweden on loan at Mjällby AIF for the rest of the season.
