About the player
Agustín Giay captained Argentina's under-20 side at the 2023 Under-20 World Cup, under Javier Mascherano.
Giay joined the San Lorenzo academy at ten and was handed a debut for the first team in 2022, aged 18. Over two seasons he made 88 appearances and scored twice. Before he left, he was captaining the side.
The move to Palmeiras came in June 2024. The Brazilian club paid 7.5 million dollars for 75 per cent of his rights — around 40 million reais at the time — and wrote a release clause of 100 million dollars into the contract to protect his value. He took the number 4 shirt.
In March 2026 the senior national team called. On 24 March, Giay was added to Argentina's squad as a replacement for the injured Gonzalo Montiel, named for two friendlies in Buenos Aires: Mauritania on 27 March and Zambia on 31 March.
He is a right-back and right-footed, born in San Carlos Centro, in the province of Santa Fe.
