Palmeiras

Nubank Parque holds 43,713 supporters in the Perdizes district of São Paulo. The ground carried the name Allianz Parque until May 2026.

Palmeiras was founded in 1914. Green and white have been the club's colours from the start, though not the only ones: red featured in the early kit before it was dropped in 1942. Verdão is the name supporters use most; Porco, "the pig," began as an insult from Corinthians fans and was adopted by the club itself in 1987.

The trophy count runs long: twelve Brazilian championships, the most recent in 2023, stretching back to 1960; four Copa do Brasil titles; three Copa Libertadores, the last two back to back in 2020 and 2021. There is also 1951's Copa Rio, a tournament FIFA recognised in 2017 as the first intercontinental club championship, though it sits apart from the club's official list of honours.

Corinthians is the name that matters most across town. The Derby Paulista between the two draws the sharpest lines in São Paulo football; a Datafolha poll found seven in ten Palmeiras fans naming Corinthians as their fiercest rival.

Ademir da Guia is remembered as the greatest player in the club's history, with 902 appearances, more than anyone else has made in Palmeiras colours, most of them for the Academia de Futebol side of the 1960s and 70s. Marcos spent twenty years in goal, from 1992 to 2012, and was there in 1999 when Palmeiras won its first Copa Libertadores — the reflexes behind the nickname São Marcos date from that side. Djalma Santos anchored right back through the 1950s and 60s and is counted by FIFA among the best ever to play there. The colours go back to 1914, to the shirt the club first put on, which — but for the red dropped decades later — looks much as it does now.
