About the player
In 2024 Alexander Barboza was named in three teams of the year at once: the Brazilian league's, the Copa Libertadores' and South America's.
Barboza joined the River Plate academy in 2005 and stayed there until 2014, when he moved up to the senior squad. He was part of the River squad that won the Copa Argentina in 2016/17.
The move to Independiente in 2019 began as a loan and became permanent when the club bought 50% of his rights for three million dollars. Two years later he left Argentina for Paraguay, where Libertad paid 1.7 million dollars for the same half share.
He arrived at Botafogo in 2024 as a free agent and took the number 20 shirt. In 2026 he joined Palmeiras.
