About the player
Áki Debes Samuelsen arrived in Sweden in December 2025 as an Allsvenskan signing, and by the following spring he had a winner's medal from the Svenska Cupen. Mjällby AIF paid about 11 million Norwegian kroner (roughly €0.93 million) to bring him from Ranheim Fotball. In the 2025–26 cup final, on 14 May 2026, the club beat Hammarby IF 2–1.
His route there began in Tórshavn, where he came through the youth ranks at HB. A spell at FC Midtjylland in 2019–20 took him abroad as a teenager, but he returned to HB and made his senior debut in 2020. That same year HB won the Faroese league and the Løgmanssteypið, so he was part of a title-winning side almost from the start. The cup came back to the club in 2023 and 2024.
The 2024 season was his most productive at home. He scored 12 goals in the Betrideildin, among them a hat-trick against KÍ in June. That form preceded the move to Ranheim in January 2025, and the Norwegian club sold him on before the year was out.
For the Faroe Islands he has been recognised early and often at youth level. In 2021 he became the youngest player in the country's history to appear for the under-21 side, and he has since won 20 caps for that team and scored twice. He has one senior cap.
