Alex Robertson

Alex Robertson won a League One title on loan before he had played a first-team game for the club that owned him. Manchester City never gave him a competitive senior appearance, only outings in the EFL Trophy. It was Portsmouth, in 2023–24, who gave him regular football: 23 league games, one goal and a divisional title.

That spell ended early. A hamstring injury in January 2024 cut the loan short and ruled him out for the rest of the season.

He had come to City after leaving Manchester United's academy. Born in Dundee, he played for England at under-17, under-18 and under-19 level, and for Australia at under-15. He made his senior debut in March 2023 and has since won about eight caps and scored once. He is also eligible for Peru through his mother and for Scotland through his grandparents.

In August 2024 Cardiff City signed him permanently for an initial fee reported at between £900,000 and £950,000, which could rise to £3 million with add-ons. Manchester City kept a 25 per cent sell-on clause. Robertson signed a four-year contract.

His first season in the Championship brought 35 league appearances and three goals. Cardiff then played in League One in 2025–26, and he scored six times in 34 games, though a pre-season injury delayed the start of that campaign. Since recovering he has been a regular starter. In September 2026 he drew high match ratings for his performances against Charlton Athletic and Stoke City. His Cardiff league record stands at 78 appearances and nine goals.
