Axel Frugone

Frugone's first taste of senior football came in a shirt that was not his own. Loaned out by Nacional without a single senior appearance for the club that raised him, he made his professional debut for Cerro on 3 February 2025, a 1–1 draw with River Plate in the Uruguayan Primera División. The loan turned into a full season: 28 matches.

The route to that point ran through Nacional's youth system in Montevideo, where he signed his first professional contract on 7 May 2024.

Before the Cerro move he had already been part of something that worked. In 2024 he was in the Uruguay under-20 squad that won the Torneo COTIF de L'Alcúdia, beating Argentina 1–0 in the final — Frugone appears in the match report for that game. He has seven caps at under-20 level. The senior national side has not called him up.

In January 2026 Nacional loaned him again, this time to Defensor Sporting for the 2026 season, and he made his debut in the Liga AUF Uruguaya Apertura. No fee has changed hands in either move; both were internal loans, the kind of arrangement that keeps a player's registration in one place while his football happens somewhere else.
