About the player
Aynsley Pears reached the 100-league-appearance mark for Blackburn Rovers in December 2025, five years after arriving from Middlesbrough for an undisclosed fee in October 2020.
Pears came through the Middlesbrough academy, which he joined in 2007. His first-team chances there were limited: 24 league appearances and one cup appearance between 2016 and 2020.
He spent 2017–18 at Darlington, making 16 appearances. The following season at Gateshead was the bigger step. He played 44 league games and 45 in all competitions, kept 12 clean sheets and was voted the club's Player's Player of the Year for 2018–19.
In the 2024–25 Championship season he played 35 times and kept 13 clean sheets.
At youth level he played for England Under-19s, winning two caps in 2016, against the Netherlands and Bulgaria. He was called up to the Under-20 squad in March 2018 but did not make an appearance.
