Cameron McJannet

Cameron McJannet scored twice in the 2022 FAI Cup final, a 4–0 win for Derry City over Shelbourne. The Soccer Writers Ireland and SSE Airtricity panel named him Player of the Month for November 2022 after it. For a defender, it was an unusual way to settle a final.

McJannet joined Luton Town's academy at under-9 level in 2009 and stayed until August 2016, when Stoke City bought him. He never played a senior game for Luton. At Stoke he turned out for the under-18, under-21 and under-23 sides but did not make a first-team appearance. A loan to Curzon Ashton for the 2018–2019 season gave him his first regular football among adults.

Stoke released him in 2020, and he signed for Derry City in the League of Ireland Premier Division. He became a key player there and later captain, and made more than 140 appearances before leaving in June 2024. The cup final came in the middle of that spell.

Grimsby Town signed him that summer on a two-year contract. The club paid a fee described as substantial but not disclosed. The deal has since been extended to 2028. In his first season at Blundell Park he played 45 times and scored two goals.

McJannet has not played for England at any level.
