Daniel Arzani

Melbourne City's academy produced a run of good young players over the years, but Daniel Arzani did in 2017–18, when he was named A-League Young Footballer of the Year and picked for the season's Team of the Season after helping the club win the National Youth League title. That form carried him into the Socceroos squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup, where he appeared against France, Denmark and Peru.

The World Cup form led to a move to Manchester City that August, part of the club's wider City Football Group network. Arzani never played a senior match for Manchester City itself; instead, his four years there were spent entirely out on loan. A move to Celtic brought a single senior appearance before an ACL injury disrupted his progress, and subsequent loans to FC Utrecht, AGF and Lommel SK, with a solitary goal for the Belgian club.

Released by Manchester City in 2022, Arzani returned to Australian football with Macarthur FC, where he won the Australia Cup, before signing for Melbourne Victory in 2023. Over two seasons there he made 60 appearances and scored seven goals; he has earned 11 senior caps for Australia since his debut against the Czech Republic in 2018, along with the Harry Kewell Medal as the country's best under-23 player in 2018. In 2025 he signed for Ferencváros in Hungary, before being loaned back to Melbourne City for the second half of the 2025–26 season.
