Edvinas Gertmonas

Edvinas Gertmonas made his way from FK NFA's youth ranks into Lithuanian senior football via FK Tauras Tauragė and FK Atlantas before a bigger move arrived in January 2015: a 4.5-year contract with Stade Rennais FC. That deal did not put him straight into the French club's first team. He spent the rest of 2015 back on loan at Atlantas, then four seasons with Rennes' reserve side in the French lower leagues. He never made a senior appearance for Rennes, though he was part of the squad that won the 2018–19 Coupe de France and reached that year's Trophée des Champions final. Gertmonas rebuilt his career at home. Joining FK Žalgiris in 2019, he became the club's first-choice goalkeeper, collecting three A Lyga titles, two Lithuanian Cups and two Lithuanian Supercups. He was named Lithuanian Footballer of the Year in 2022, a year in which he also took the Žalgiris Player of the Year award, repeating the latter honour in 2023. In March 2024 he moved abroad again, this time to FC Universitatea Cluj in Romania. There he became a regular in Liga I, helped the side reach the Cupa României final in the 2025–26 season, and was named in that season's Liga I Team of the Season. He later agreed a move to Servette FC in the Swiss Super League. Internationally, Gertmonas progressed through Lithuania's youth ranks before making his senior debut against Malta in June 2015. He has since gone on to appear in UEFA Euro 2024 qualifying, the UEFA Nations League and the qualifying rounds for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
