About the player
Ezra Mayers made his Premier League debut on 7 December 2025, coming on for El Hadji Malick Diouf in the last ten minutes of West Ham United's 1-1 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion.
Mayers started out at Wanstead Athletic, his local grassroots side, and joined West Ham's academy in 2016, aged nine. He stayed in the youth system through the age groups. His first professional contract was signed on 16 January 2024, his 17th birthday.
The clearest team success of his youth career came in 2025, when West Ham's Under-18s won the U18 Premier League Cup by beating Reading 2-1 in the final. Mayers was in that squad and flicked on a corner in the 17th minute. He was not part of the group that won the FA Youth Cup in 2023, so the cup win came later, when he was one of the older players in the side.
He has played for England at Under-19 level. By March 2026 he had made at least three appearances for that age group and scored once, including in qualifiers for the UEFA European Under-19 Championship.
The Brighton match was a short outing, but it moved him from the academy pitches to a Premier League matchday squad while still a teenager.
