About the player
Campos dos Goytacazes gave Brazilian football another prospect, and Grêmio spotted him early: Gabriel Mec joined the club's academy at nine years old and worked his way through the youth ranks, including the under-17 and under-20 sides, before a first-team debut in January 2025.
It was Porto who moved for him. In September 2026 the Portuguese club agreed a transfer worth €11 million — well short of the €100 million release clause written into his contract at Grêmio. Part of the fee went towards settling a debt the Brazilian club owed his agent. At Porto, Mec kept the number 37 on his back.
He is two-footed, a trait scouts noted during his rise through Grêmio's ranks, and at 1.73 m he relies on more than physical presence to make an impact.
