About the player
Ionuț Cercel spent the years from 2014 to 2024 in the Gheorghe Hagi Academy, an academy closely tied to Farul Constanța. Farul was the club where his senior football began.
He made his debut for the first team in the 2023–24 season, in the Cupa României. His first appearance in Liga I came in May 2024, at the end of that campaign. A right-footed defender, he is used mainly at right-back.
The move that defined his career so far came in February 2025, when FCSB signed him. The base fee was €500,000, and performance clauses could take the total to €900,000.
The results followed quickly. Cercel was part of the FCSB squad that won the Liga I title in 2024–25, and he made 13 league appearances for the club. In 2025 he added the Supercupa României to his list of honours. His contract with FCSB runs until 30 June 2030.
At 1.86 m and 75 kg, he has the build of a modern full-back.
