About the player
Five goals in one Norwegian Cup tie is the line that stands out in James Ampofo's record. On 10 April 2024 he scored all five for Raufoss against Skreia, in an 8–0 win.
Ampofo came through the youth ranks at Koforidua Semper Fi in Ghana before moving to Europe. His first senior club was AO Episkopi Rethymnou in Greece, which he joined in August 2022. A year later he moved to Raufoss in the Norwegian First Division, and that is where his career took off. By late June 2025 he had six goals in 11 league matches and was among the division's leading scorers.
That form led to a move up a level. In July 2025 Strømsgodset signed him on a three-and-a-half-year deal, bringing him into the Eliteserien.
In January 2026 he joined Start on loan for the season. He made 15 Eliteserien appearances for the club without scoring.
Before his senior career, Ampofo played for Ghana at youth level. He earned one cap for the Under-20 side and was part of the squad that won the 2021 Africa U-20 Championship.
A right-footed forward, he has spent most of his career at Norwegian clubs.
