About the player
Three saved penalties in one shootout are what Jamie Cumming is remembered for from his Chelsea academy days. Playing for the Under-19s in the 2017–18 UEFA Youth League, he stopped three kicks in the semi-final shootout against Porto.
He signed his first professional contract with Chelsea in 2018, but the first team was not where his senior football took shape. He was part of the senior squad from 2020 to 2024 without making a league appearance for the club.
The first spell was at Stevenage in League Two, where he made 47 appearances and kept 18 clean sheets. Gillingham followed, from January 2021 to January 2022. He stayed at Milton Keynes Dons from January 2022 until May 2023. For the 2022–23 season he was named both Player of the Year and Players' Player of the Year.
In January 2024 he moved to Oxford United, again on loan, and stayed until May. The arrangement became permanent in June 2024, when he joined the club on a free transfer, ending his time with Chelsea.
At international level Cumming has played for England's youth sides: two appearances for the Under-17s in 2016 and one for the Under-19s in 2018. He has not yet been capped by the senior team.
