János Bodnár

Bodnár learned his football in England rather than Hungary. He came through the academy at Peterborough United, moving up through the under-18 and under-21 sides and playing in the FA Youth Cup. To get senior minutes, Peterborough loaned him to Kettering Town and Barwell, two clubs in the lower leagues.

He returned to Hungary in the summer of 2024 and signed for Vasas in the second division. He stayed about a season. In August 2025 he and the club agreed to end his contract by mutual consent.

The move that followed was quick. In the same month he signed a contract with Zalaegerszegi TE, running for two years with an option for a third, and so entered the top flight. He made 12 appearances for the club and started every one of them, so he was a regular in the back line rather than a squad player.

In January 2026 he moved to Újpest. His contract there runs to 30 June 2027. Bodnár is right-footed and plays mainly at right-back. He can also cover on the left of defence or in midfield, a range that fits a player who has spent his career adapting to new leagues and new coaches.

Bodnár has played for Hungary at under-17, under-19, under-20 and under-21 level.
