About the player
Joseph Rankin-Costello came through Manchester United's academy before moving on to Blackburn Rovers, where he signed his first professional contract in January 2017. He went on to make 115 league appearances for Blackburn, scoring six goals across an eight-year stay, and was part of the squad that reached the semi-finals of the FA Youth Cup in the 2016–17 season.
In July 2025 he joined Charlton Athletic on a four-year deal. Charlton have used him in a dual role, deploying him both as a midfielder and at right-back. His first goal for the club came on New Year's Day 2026, in a 1–1 draw at home to league leaders Coventry City.
Rankin-Costello has continued to feature regularly at the Valley, taking his tally with Charlton to 33 appearances and two goals by September 2026. He has yet to add any senior international recognition to his profile, having come through his development without representing England at youth level.
