About the player
Sonny Carey spent most of his teenage years outside the professional game, working through non-league football with Norwich United and Wroxham after leaving Norwich City's academy.
Carey went on to make 116 league appearances for Blackpool across four seasons, scoring 17 goals, and was joint top scorer at the club in 2024–25 with 11 in all competitions, though Blackpool finished ninth in League One that season and missed out on promotion.
His time at Blackpool was not without incident: in August 2022 he was sent off for serious foul play on Burnley's Ian Maatsen and picked up a three-match ban after an appeal against the decision was dismissed.
Carey moved to Charlton Athletic on a free transfer in the summer of 2025, signing a three-year contract. He represented the England Colleges FA during the 2018–19 season, though he has not been capped at senior international level.
