Kian Spence

Kian Spence's route to Rotherham United ran almost entirely through non-league football before a return to the Football League. He came through the Middlesbrough academy but left in 2019 without a senior appearance for the first team, joining Scarborough Athletic on a free transfer instead. A brief loan back to Scarborough aside, he settled at FC Halifax Town from October 2020, where he made 64 league appearances and scored six goals.

His time at Halifax ended on a bittersweet note. He was part of the squad that won the FA Trophy in the 2022–23 season, having played 20 games in the competition that campaign, but injury kept him out of the matchday squad for the final at Wembley.

A move to Barrow AFC in June 2023 marked his time at the club. Across two seasons he made 77 appearances and scored 14 goals. That form led to his contract expiring in June 2025 and an immediate free transfer to Rotherham United, where he signed a deal running until 2027. He has made 26 league appearances for the club, scoring twice.

Spence has not represented England at any level, youth or senior, in contrast to his brother Djed Spence, who has been capped by England's under-21s.
