Ted Cann

Ted Cann's route to Rotherham United's goal was not a straight one. He spent his early youth career at Liverpool before leaving in 2017 and joining West Bromwich Albion's academy the same year, signing his first professional contract with the club in 2019. What followed was six years without a single senior appearance for West Brom's first team, the kind of stretch that would have ended plenty of careers before they started.

Instead, Cann built his game elsewhere, sent out on a string of loans to non-league and lower-division sides. He kept goal for Worcester City in 2019, had two spells at Yeovil Town in 2020 and 2022, spent time at AFC Telford United across 2021 and 2022, made nineteen appearances for Leamington in 2023, and finished with a loan at Forest Green Rovers in 2025. Along the way he picked up a winner's medal in the West Bromwich Albion under-23s' Premier League Cup in the 2021–22 season.

None of those loans led to a first-team breakthrough at West Brom, and in June 2025 Cann moved on for good, joining Rotherham United on a free transfer on a two-year contract. The move to Rotherham gives the right-footed goalkeeper his first settled club opportunity after years of being farmed out across the football pyramid.
