About the player
Kristian Boychev came through Sofia football with Septemvri, moving up through the club's youth ranks before a switch to CSKA 1948 in July 2022. His time there was largely spent with the reserve sides, first in the Third League with CSKA 1948 III and then a step up to the Second League with CSKA 1948 II, and he had a single taste of first-team football. That was as close as his CSKA 1948 spell came to senior involvement before he left the club as a free agent in December 2024.
Dunav Ruse signed him on 11 December 2024, tying him to a contract running until 2029. The move quickly paid off: Boychev became a key part of the side that won the Vtora Liga title in the 2024/2025 season and went up to the First League. His form during that campaign earned him the "Young Hope" individual award at the league's end-of-season ceremony.
Boychev has also worked his way through Bulgaria's youth set-up. He has been capped four times by the under-19s, including fixtures in Euro U19 qualifying, and has added a further appearance each for the under-18s and under-21s in friendly matches. A first call-up to the senior national team has yet to follow.
