About the player
Luca Banu came on in the 81st minute against UTA Arad on 2 October 2022 and, at 17, became the 57th product of the Gheorghe Hagi Academy to play for Farul Constanța's first team. The debut came in the Liga I season that Farul went on to win as champions.
Banu was born in Constanța and spent ten years in the academy system, from 2012 until 2022. Alongside his youth football he played in the UEFA Youth League with the club's under-19 side. His first season in the senior squad brought two league appearances.
Banu has been a regular in Romania's youth teams. He collected two caps at under-16 level in 2021, then seven at under-17, including Euro qualifiers in 2022. His under-18 record is six caps and a goal against Italy in March 2023. At under-19 level he played seven times, including Euro qualifiers in 2024, and again scored once. Most recently he made four appearances for the under-20s in the Elite League in 2025–26.
His route to regular senior football has run through the second tier. Farul and Metaloglobus București agreed a cooperation deal, approved by the Romanian Football Federation, and under it Banu was registered with Metaloglobus in Liga II in 2026 while keeping his contract with Farul. He made his Metaloglobus debut in September. After two top-flight appearances as a teenager, the arrangement gives him a place in a league side's first-team plans.
