Luuk Koopmans

Luuk Koopmans grew up through the joint N.E.C./FC Oss academy after starting out at RKSV Margriet and TOP Oss, but his path to first-team football ran through the amateur ranks: a spell at N.E.C. produced no senior appearances, and he had to drop down to SV OSS '20 before FC Oss gave him his professional debut. That form was enough to convince PSV Eindhoven to sign him in 2015 for a fee of €50,000. He spent three seasons with Jong PSV in the Eerste Divisie without breaking into the senior side, and loan spells followed at MVV Maastricht and ADO Den Haag. The move to ADO proved decisive: the club took up the option to buy after his loan, and Koopmans became a regular there from 2020, making 68 league appearances.

One moment from that spell stands out. On 28 October 2020, in extra time of a KNVB Cup tie against Sparta Rotterdam, Koopmans scored with a header — the first goal from open play by an ADO Den Haag goalkeeper since Martin Hansen in 2015.

Koopmans joined Fortuna Sittard on a free transfer in June 2023, initially on a two-year contract. Fortuna Sittard extended that deal in July 2024 through to 2027. He was never capped for the Netherlands at any level, but he does carry silverware from his PSV years: as a squad member, he won the Eredivisie title in 2015–16 and the Johan Cruyff Shield in 2016, even without making a senior appearance for the club himself.
