About the player
Lyanco arrived at Atlético Mineiro in July 2024 after a career built almost entirely outside Brazil. The move brought the centre-back back to a country he had barely played in as a senior professional.
His early promise was clear at youth level: he won the U-20 Copa Libertadores with São Paulo in 2016, then took the Toulon Tournament with Brazil's under-23 side in 2019, picking up the Silver Ball and a place in the Best XI along the way.
At Southampton, where he spent three seasons from 2021, Lyanco later spoke publicly about dealing with anxiety and panic attacks.
Since joining Atlético Mineiro, he was part of the side that won the Campeonato Mineiro in 2025, earning a place in that season's Team of the Year. His time in Belo Horizonte has not been without chaos, however: he was on the pitch for the 2026 Campeonato Mineiro final against Cruzeiro, a match that descended into a mass brawl and produced a record 23 red cards.
