Mathieu Scalet

Mathieu Scalet was born in Annemasse, France, but built his career almost entirely in Poland, a country to which he also holds citizenship through his family background — a status he obtained while at Wisła Kraków. After starting out with the reserve side there and a spell at Beskid Andrychów, he moved to Śląsk Wrocław, where his numbers as a defensive midfielder stood out: with the club's second team he scored 34 goals in 69 appearances, and helped the side win the IV liga Małopolska Wschodnia group in 2018–19 and the III liga, group III, the following season. He also featured for Śląsk Wrocław's first team in the Ekstraklasa before leaving on a free transfer to Podbeskidzie Bielsko-Biała in 2021.

In 2023 he joined Motor Lublin, again on a free transfer, and stayed with the club through its rise from the I liga to the Ekstraklasa, making 72 appearances and scoring five goals along the way.

Scalet has not won a cap for either France or Poland, but in August 2025 he spoke openly to Niezalezna.pl about wanting to represent Poland in future, pointing to Taras Romanchuk as a precedent for a player switching allegiance in that way. His dual citizenship and that ambition have since been picked up by other Polish outlets, including Weszło. In 2026 he left Motor Lublin on a free transfer to join Odra Opole in the I liga.
