About the player
Mason Melia was the youngest player ever to appear in an FAI Cup Final, and his club, St Patrick's Athletic, won it. That was 2023, the year he made his senior debut, and it set the pace for what followed.
The route to that final began in County Wicklow. He came up through Newtown Juniors and St Joseph's Boys, then had a year at Bray Wanderers before moving to St Patrick's Athletic in 2022. That same year he was part of the Republic of Ireland U16 side that won the Victory Shield.
Recognition came quickly. In 2024 he was named PFAI Young Player of the Year , the youngest winner in the award's history. St Patrick's Athletic's own young player award went to him in 2024 and again in 2025, and in 2023–24 he won the Leinster Senior Cup with the club.
In early February 2025 St Patrick's Athletic agreed a record fee for a League of Ireland player to send him to Tottenham Hotspur. Post-Brexit work permit regulations delayed the move, and it was finalised in January 2026. The reported fee was about €1.8 million initially, potentially rising to €4.2 million with add-ons.
Tottenham did not keep him at the club. He was loaned straight to Lincoln City of the EFL Championship, a deal confirmed in August 2026. The loan runs for the 2026–27 season, with no option for Lincoln to buy him.
