About the player
Nampalys Mendy came through the AS Monaco academy and won Ligue 2 with the club's first team before Leicester City paid around £13 million for him in 2016. He was named on the bench for Leicester's 2021 FA Cup Final win over Chelsea, though he did not get onto the pitch. His goal against Tottenham Hotspur in February 2023 ended a run of 108 matches for the club without him scoring.
For Senegal, Mendy made his international debut in March 2021 in a World Cup qualifier against Congo and has gone on to win 35 caps. He was part of the squad that won the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, where he was named in the Team of the Tournament, and the following year Senegal's president made him a Grand Officer of the National Order of the Lion in recognition of that success.
After leaving Leicester, Mendy moved to RC Lens on a free transfer, then signed for Watford in August 2025 on a one-year deal with an option for a further season, also as a free transfer. He has made seven competitive appearances for the Championship club.
