Nathan Wood

Nathan Wood grew up at TIBS and Stockton Town before Middlesbrough took him into their academy in 2015. He turned professional there in July 2018 and, that August, made his debut at 16 years and 72 days old — the youngest player in the club's history, breaking a record that had stood since 1905.

Two loan spells followed while he was still tied to Middlesbrough. He spent the second half of the 2020–21 season at Crewe Alexandra, making a dozen appearances, then joined Hibernian on a season-long loan in the summer of 2021. That move in Scotland did not work out: with playing time hard to come by, he made just one appearance before returning to Middlesbrough early, in November 2021.

Wood's path back to regular football came through a permanent switch to Swansea City in June 2022, on a two-year deal reported to be worth between £5 million and £8 million. He scored once during his time there.

In July 2024 he moved to Southampton on a four-year contract, in a deal reported at around £3 million that also included a sell-on clause for Middlesbrough. The transfer reunited him with Russell Martin, who had managed him at Swansea. Wood scored his first goal for Southampton and has two senior career goals to his name. Internationally, he has come through England's youth ranks from under-15 to under-21 level.
