Özcan Şahan

Four goals in one match against Kırıkkale Büyük Anadolu stand out from Özcan Şahan's season at 23 Elazığ FK in the 3. Lig. He scored nine times in 23 appearances there, a return that is unusual for a defender, and it came a few years after he had been used further up the pitch, as an attacking midfielder or forward.

Şahan grew up in northern France. He started at JS Longuenesse and US Pays de Saint-Omer before joining the Valenciennes academy in 2014. He came through the under-19s and then played for the reserve side until 2021. He is a Turkish citizen, though he has not been capped by Turkey at any level.

His route to Turkey ran through short stops. He spent the second half of 2021 with the B team at US Créteil-Lusitanos, then moved to Olympic Charleroi in Belgium, where he made five appearances. In September 2022 he joined Elazığ, and that season put him in view of İstanbulspor.

İstanbulspor signed him in July 2023 on a contract running to 30 June 2028. Fanatik reported the move as a free transfer, while Elazığ Mavi Haber wrote that İstanbulspor sent two players on loan in return. Şahan, now settled as a right-back, played 16 times in the Süper Lig in 2023–24 without scoring.

The club then played in the 1. Lig, and his numbers there were better: 31 appearances in 2024–25, with three goals and two assists. This season he has 23 league appearances and one goal.
