Reece McAlear

Reece McAlear’s most enduring moment came during his spell at Livingston, where he helped secure the Scottish Championship title and the Scottish Challenge Cup in the same season. That double success earned him a move to St Johnstone, but his footballing journey began far away from the limelight at Motherwell’s academy, where he spent seven years developing before a £250,000 transfer took him to Norwich City in 2019.

At Norwich, he made his senior debut in November 2020 and found regular playing time during a loan switch to Inverness Caledonian Thistle. He scored four goals in 28 appearances there, proving he could contribute effectively in the Championship.

After leaving Norwich, McAlear signed for Tranmere Rovers. He again sought experience elsewhere, spending the 2022–23 campaign at Ayr United on loan.

His breakthrough opportunity arrived in May 2024 when he joined Livingston on a free transfer. The impact was immediate. That performance triggered an automatic contract extension and eventually led to his current role at St Johnstone, where he wears shirt number 42.

McAlear has also represented Scotland at various youth levels. He earned six caps for the U16 side, five for the U17s—scoring one goal in that campaign—and one cap for the U18 team. He has yet to make a senior international appearance.
