Sam Stanton

Sam Stanton is a midfielder who came through the ranks at Hibernian, where he spent his formative years in the academy before making the step up to senior football. His path has been defined by movement, moving from the Scottish capital to the United States, then to Ireland, and finally back to Scotland with a move to St Johnstone.

He began playing for Hutchison Vale BC before joining the Hibs setup in 2006. The breakthrough came in December 2011 when he made his senior debut. That period at Easter Road provided the foundation for his career, offering him opportunities to gain experience through loans. He spent time at Cowdenbeath, Livingston, and Dumbarton, playing in different environments to develop his game.

In July 2017, Stanton left Hibernian to join Dundee United. He initially arrived on loan before securing a permanent deal in January 2018. This stint in Dundee lasted until January 2020, when he decided to leave on a free transfer to join Phoenix Rising in the USL Championship. It was a significant change of scenery, taking his career across the Atlantic. After a season in America, he moved to Dundalk in the League of Ireland in January 2021.

His journey continued in December 2021 when he signed for Raith Rovers. More recently, he went on loan to Arbroath in January 2025 before completing a permanent switch to St Johnstone in June 2025. He wears the number 11 shirt for the club.

Internationally, Stanton has represented Scotland at youth levels. He earned six caps for the national youth teams, scoring one goal against Norway while playing for the U19 side. He has not yet featured for the senior national team. Standing 180 cm tall, he plays in midfield.
