About the player
Ruari Paton began his journey in the Republic of Ireland, coming through the ranks at Shelbourne, St Kevin's Boys and Belvedere. Hibernian signed him in 2016, and he made his senior debut in 2018. A loan spell at Gala Fairydean Rovers preceded a free transfer to East Kilbride, where he scored 12 goals in just 12 games. That efficiency attracted Stranraer, then Queen of the South, where he became a key player with 25 goals in 70 appearances.
His rise continued when he joined Queen's Park in 2023. He scored 17 goals in 36 matches before securing a six-figure move to Port Vale in July 2024. A loan to Dundee United in 2025 yielded no goals, but the situation changed at St Johnstone. He arrived in February 2026 and scored five times in 13 matches. Their victory in the Scottish Championship secured his permanent stay.
He was named in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year for both the 2022–23 and 2023–24 seasons. He has also represented the Republic of Ireland at the U16 level.
