Samuel Mark Lavelle

Samuel Lavelle captained Morecambe to the 2021 League Two play-off final win over Newport County, the result that took the club into League One for the first time in its history. He had joined the Lancashire side on a free transfer in August 2017, after leaving Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers without a first-team appearance for either. At Bolton a transfer embargo kept him out of the side.

Morecambe gave him the regular football he had lacked. Over four years he played 139 league games and scored four goals.

Charlton Athletic paid a reported £300,000 plus add-ons for him in August 2021. He played 32 league games there. In January 2023 he went on loan to Burton Albion, but an injury ended the spell early and he made only two appearances.

He left Charlton on a free transfer in July 2023 and spent two seasons at Carlisle United, playing 83 league games and scoring seven goals. His contract there ran out in June 2025.

Grimsby Town signed him as a free agent on 25 July 2025 on a two-year deal. He made 12 appearances in all competitions in the 2025–26 season: six in League Two, two each in the FA Cup, the EFL Cup and the EFL Trophy. The club later announced him as available for transfer.

Born in Blackpool, Lavelle plays for Scotland at youth level. He won two caps for the under-18s, scoring once, and four for the under-19s.
