About the player
Samuel Marques's path to Grasshopper Club Zürich's first team ran through the club's own reserve side. After coming through the youth ranks at BC Albisrieden and FC Höngg, and a spell with YF Juventus, the midfielder joined FC Winterthur's U19 setup before returning to Zürich to sign for Grasshopper II. He spent the 2023/2024 season playing for the reserves in the 1. Liga Classic, and it was from there that he made the jump to the senior side, making his debut for Grasshopper Club Zürich in May 2023.
That early taste of first-team football was followed, in July 2025, by a professional contract running until June 2028, agreed as a free transfer. Marques has also built a steady record with Switzerland's youth teams. He has since added a first cap for the U21 side.
On the pitch for Grasshopper, Marques scored in a Swiss Cup tie against Lachen/Altendorf during the 2025/2026 season, one of the clearer markers of his progress at senior level so far. He plays right-footed in central midfield.
