Shion Sinkawa

Shion Shinkawa was still a high school student when Sagan Tosu promoted him to the senior squad in 2025. He made an immediate mark in the J2 League, playing 33 matches that season and scoring five goals, the first of them arriving in July 2025.

His form drew the attention of Japan's youth set-ups. Having already been capped at under-18 and under-23 level, Shinkawa was called into the Japan under-22 squad in August 2025. He has been described as a candidate for a place at the Los Angeles Olympics, with his aggressive pressing, physical duels and fighting spirit singled out as his defining traits on the pitch.

In January 2026, Shinkawa agreed a transfer to Sint-Truiden reported by Foot Mercato at €700,000, though the club itself did not confirm the fee. Shinkawa signed a contract running until 2029. The step up to the Belgian Pro League has been a gradual one: by May 2026 he had made four league appearances for STVV without yet opening his scoring account there.

Shion Shinkawa operates as a midfielder, though he has also featured further forward.
