About the player
Simon Ngapandouetnbu spent six years in Marseille's academy without ever making a senior league appearance for the club, where he made 40 appearances between 2019 and 2025. A loan to Nîmes Olympique in the 2024–2025 season gave him a run of 26 appearances, the first sustained senior football of his career, before Montpellier HSC signed him on a free transfer in August 2025.
The move to Montpellier came with a structure. Marseille retained 50% of his economic rights along with a priority option to buy him back, and the three-year contract included a bonus clause for Montpellier should the club win promotion to Ligue 1.
Ngapandouetnbu's international path has been just as winding. Eligible for both Cameroon and France, he was called up to the France U19s in November 2021, though he never played for that side. He ultimately committed to Cameroon, and his rise culminated in a senior debut on 31 March 2026 in a FIFA Series match against China, which Cameroon won 2–0.
