About the player
Stanley Kanu's route to the Czech Republic ran through nine years in Portuguese football. He arrived in Portugal from Diamond Academy in Nigeria and moved through Portosantense, Caçadores das Taipas and GD Vilar de Perdizes.
The goals came first at Vilar de Perdizes, where he scored eight in 21 league matches in 2019–2020. Marítimo B signed him on a free transfer in August 2020, and he stayed for the rest of his time in Portugal. In the third division he scored 32 goals in 99 league appearances.
The senior side of Marítimo gave him six Primeira Liga appearances from December 2022 onwards. He did not score in them, but did not concede either.
On 24 January 2025 he joined FC Zlín for an undisclosed fee. He played two league matches and one MOL Cup match for the club that season, scoring in the cup. The first full season in Czech football, 2025/2026, brought 31 Chance Liga appearances and five league goals, with another in two cup games. That made seven for Zlín in all competitions.
Kanu has played for Nigeria at youth level but has not been capped by the senior national side. He has won no major individual awards or team trophies.
