About the player
Zach Mitchell emerged from the Charlton Athletic Academy. The London club saw potential in him early, signing him as a youth in 2012 and rewarding his development with a professional contract in 2022. His arrival at the senior level was gradual.
His career path took him away from London to gain experience. A loan spell at Colchester United followed. He made 23 league appearances there, scoring a goal. He joined St Johnstone in February 2025, wearing the number 5 shirt. He made eight league appearances during that initial stint. A subsequent move to Hibernian in September 2025 lasted only until January 2026. He was recalled after just two appearances, prompting a return to St Johnstone on a new loan deal in July 2026.
Mitchell’s achievements at youth level foreshadowed his current trajectory. He captained Charlton’s U18 side to the Championship title in the 2021–22 season. The following year, he took home the Sky Bet League One Apprentice of the Season award.
Physically, he stands 186 cm tall and is right-footed. He has earned one cap for England at the Under-15 level, facing Turkey in December 2019. As of late 2026, he has made approximately 70 appearances and scored four goals across all competitions.
