Aarhus GF

Matches against AaB are known in Danish football as Slaget om Jylland, the Battle of Jutland. Brøndby IF supplies the other fixture that matters, though it has never been given a name of its own.

Aarhus GF began in 1880 as a gymnastics society, founded by Kristian Kristiansen; football did not become a department of its own until 1902. The club has never changed its name or merged with another Aarhus side, and in 1991 it was one of the founding members of the professional Superliga.

AGF won four championships in the 1950s and 1960s, then a fifth in 1986, with John Stampe in the side — later named the club's Legend of the Year. The next one did not arrive for forty years, until 2026. The nine Danish Cups came in a tighter run, the last of them in 1996, won by a team built around Stig Tøfting.

Henning Jensen went on to play for Real Madrid, and the academy later sent Michael Lumb to Bolton, Crystal Palace and Zenit, and produced Morten Rasmussen, who played up front for Denmark.

The club is currently between homes. Work on a new ground, Skovens Arena (the Forest Arena), holding around 24,000, is due to run until 2027. Until it opens, AGF plays at Vejlby Stadium, which holds around 11,500 — barely half the capacity it is building towards.
