Amed

Amed head into the new season in the 1. Lig, Turkey's second tier, having never played there before. The place was won in 2023–24, when the club finished top of the 2. Lig's Red Group with 81 points, a result that took Amed further up the pyramid than at any point in its history.

The shirt is red, white and green, colours long associated with the Kurdish flag, and the club plays in front of up to 33,000 at the Diyarbakır Stadium. Supporters have taken to calling the side the Pride of Mesopotamia, a nod to the region rather than a title stamped on any badge.

Turkish Cup football gave Amed its highest-profile night: in 2015–16 the club reached the quarter-final before Fenerbahçe ended the run. Domestically, the road to this promotion went through two spells where Amed came up short in the 3. Lig play-off final, in 2010–11 and again a year later, before the club found a more direct route — winning the 3. Lig outright in 2006–07 and again in 2012–13, each time going straight up to the 2. Lig rather than through the play-offs. Later campaigns in that division, in 2013–14, 2016–17, 2021–22 and 2022–23, ended early in the play-offs, which made the title-winning route back in 2023–24 the one that finally carried the club through.

The name itself predates all of it. Amed is the Kurdish name for Diyarbakır, and the club, formed in the city in 1972, has carried it since.
