Ansbach

Georg Volkert left Ansbach at the age of a schoolboy footballer. In 1962 the youth player went to 1. FC Nürnberg for 3,000 Mark, and he later played for the German national team.

Hans-Jürgen Brunner came the other way. After a long career as a professional at Nürnberg, he played for Ansbach and led the side to promotion to the Regionalliga Süd in 2001, as Bayernliga champions. Four years earlier the club had won the Bezirksoberliga Mittelfranken, then a sixth-tier competition. Sandro Cescutti was in that promotion squad and later played for Hoffenheim and VfR Aalen.

They won the Landesliga Bayern-Nordwest in 2014 and again in 2016, and they finished second in the Bayernliga in 2022. They now play in the Regionalliga Bayern, the fourth tier. They finished 13th in 2023/24 and 11th in 2024/25.

In 1980–81 they beat FSV Pfaffenhofen/Ilm 1–0 in the German Cup, then lost 0–13 to Stuttgarter Kickers in the second round. They lost the Bavarian Cup final in 2008, and the German Cup first round in 2008–09 followed. They had also reached it in 1985–86.

The name "Nullneuner" comes from 1909, when footballers formed a department inside the gymnastics club Turnverein 1860 Ansbach. The club has changed its name several times since. It re-formed in 1917 after the First World War and again in 1945, and it became an independent Spielvereinigung in 1951. There is no derby in Ansbach. The nearest thing to a city rival is 1. FC 1912 Ansbach, and its players joined the footballers of Turnverein in 1917.
