No fixture on the Ariana calendar carries the weight of a derby name. AS d'Ariana has spent most of its life away from the top division.

The club took shape in 1938 in the city of Ariana, and has worn black and white ever since — a black shirt and shorts at home, white on the road. Promotion out of Ligue 2 in the 1968-69 season put the club in the top flight for the following campaign. It has not been back since, and the Tunisian Cup has never come its way either; the furthest the club has gone there is a last-16 exit in 2020-21.

Lower down the pyramid, Ariana has had steadier days. A Ligue 3 title in the Poule Nord group in 2013 stands as the club's one fully confirmed honour of the modern era. Older claims to third- and fourth-division titles float around from the 1960s through the 2000s, but only that 2013 campaign holds up against the record books.

The club plays in front of 7,000 at the Stade Municipal d'Ariana, and has spent recent seasons working through Ligue 2's regional groups rather than chasing continental football.
